Hello Pickleballers-
Your volunteer committee (Heather, Magi, Tim, Josh, Frank, and Paul) met today to discuss how best to support players at different skill levels. In the spirit of the club’s philosophy of inclusive play we had productive discussions on how to move forward. We’re open to other suggestions and receiving feedback, so please don't be shy. Also consider some of our decisions outlined below as a trial.
To support more “competitive” opportunities to play, compared to our mostly “recreational” play to date, we have decided to dedicate Court D as a competitive play court. Players at Court D should expect more consistent competition. If you identify as a "competitive" player then you are welcome to mix in with other players on Court D. This will start on Monday July 21. The three other outdoor courts will remain dedicated to supporting beginner to advanced play opportunities in recreational-style games where "calibrated" play is encouraged. This decision may be revisited and an additional court may also be dedicated to competitive play if demand is high.
We would also like to remind all players of the following:
to welcome new players and introduce them to others and the club and its structured play (e.g. winners split, rotation, play times, etc.).
please “calibrate” your play when against opponents that don’t have as much experience as you. Basically, don’t go too hard or too soft at them. Find that balance of fun, recreational play. Of course, on the competitive Court D you can expect play to be high speed and aggressive, so "calibrating" play is NOT expected.
respect rotation rules, which are aimed at providing regular play opportunities for all. Basically, after playing two games in a row…take a break.
I think we all want to have fun on the courts and improve our play. The committee feels these small steps will help get us there as a club that has evolved over the years.
In addition, we encourage all to keep up-to-date on the website and also learn to use the Pickleball Scheduling App "Playtime Scheduler". Reach out to Tim Hicks if you want help with using Playtime Scheduler.
Most of all, have fun...Heather, Magi, Tim, Josh, Frank, and Paul
