Tuesday morning, October 21st - MTA Gym

Hi all

We had four nets set up most of the morning, rotating quite well... It was great to see the return of Mona and Kirk, and it looks like they will be back as regulars now that they have moved from their cottage in Alma! Mona did say she would be a little rusty with pickleball because she has been focusing on her golf game, but I did get to play with Kirk and he surprised me quite a bit. Maybe he has slipped out to play pickleball when Mona was not looking???

I mentioned to a number of our players this morning that we have been asked to host a quick "try-it" session for the Girls Get Active afterschool program (grades 5-8) next Tuesday, October 28 at the outdoor courts from 3:30 to 4:30. I plan on introducing them quickly to the basic rules, then have them give pickleball a try... Jessica from Town Recreation Programs informs me that they have 2 afterschool leaders for the group and they have access to the building at the Park, so all we have to do is show them the game and have fun... A number of our group have already offered to be there to help out, but there is always room for more! We are hoping the weather cooperates!

I have three games to report on today. The first was a marathon game between Kelly and Pamela versus Heather and I. After falling behind Kelly and Pamela battled back from a lopsided score, only to fall 15-13 in what we would call triple overtime??? The second game saw Kirk and I fall to Tim and Scott in another tight game 12-10. In the last game Heather and I fell 11-7 to Kirk and Tim... I guess I was the common person on the short side of the scores in the final two games...

Play continues tomorrow night at the Salem gym and then back at the MTA Gym on Thursday morning... I will not be able to attend these two sessions, so if anyone wishes to email me with a short writeup, I would see that a recap would be posted here.
