Thursday morning, July 24th - Outdoor Courts

Updated: Aug 31

Hi All,

All four courts were busy this AM and so was the wind! Sackville winds often add an element of surprise and uncertainty in almost every shot that they really keep you and your partner on your toes. Teams sometimes choose to switch sides half way through the game. My preference is to not switch and deal with the wind, its gusts and direction that you know, rather than gambling and have to re-adjust.

I counted about 20 players at max, but people were coming and going and so difficult to estimate the exact number. Sherman made an appearance and his hustle was evident from the start. Ethan and Aidan's games are progressing well too. I had the pleasure of playing with Richard, Frank, Heather, Jocelyn, Catherine, Ethan, and others. There were many excellent games but I'll outline the highs and lows as I experienced. On Court D (our recently designated "competitive" court) Heather and I had a great game as it is very fun to play with, not against, a lefty. Richard and I also had a couple of wind-assisted wins against Frank and Steve. There were some amazing shots directed by the wind in those early games. And it was determined that Frank needs to wear a tighter fitting shirt because he is giving too many points to opponents with successful body shots that just touch him.

Now for the lows, which all players experience but you just shake off. Paul and Catherine easily bested Ethan and myself, something like 11-3. Their shots were bang on and ours just were not. And then myself and Catherine couldn't buy a decent shot against Pam and Bruno. They are tough competitors and won easily 11-4, probably most of their points were wind assisted :) I bet Catherine agrees with that assessment.

Myself and other players enjoyed time on Court D and the other three recreational courts. Honestly, I didn't notice a difference in the caliber of play, which speaks to the quality of players on the courts today.

Next playtime is Friday 1-3 PM then Saturday 9-12 at the outdoor courts.

Take care,

Josh
