Thursday morning, June 26th on Outdoor Courts

Hi All,

We had about 14 players out today and played from 9am until 11:45am.  The weather was perfect except for the odd dust cloud and loud noises coming from the work site next door.  But that’s what comes with progress – hopefully it won’t last too long.

Brent is in BC and contacted Logan to say hello to us all and that he hopes to be joining us again soon.  He also asked about my back and hoped I was back playing – Thank you Brent, we look forward to your return.

Our last game was a lot of fun with Frank and Monique taking on Jill and me.  They won 11 to 5, but while the score might lead one to think it was a bit of a trouncing, it was anything but that – we had great rallies and Jill played very well keeping the opposition on their toes. Steve B was enjoying the game from the bench and joined in some of the laughter too.  One rally caused some confusion when Frank called a ball in the air as “out” to let Monique know.  But the ball was “in” and Monique returned it.  The ball headed towards Jill but she had stopped playing after hearing Frank’s call.  This was our loss because Frank made the call as a communication to his partner and doesn’t stop the play.  The play would only stop if the call was made after the ball bounced.  Calls such as “out, in, bounce it, let it go, etc.” are all forms of team communication while the ball is still in play.  Great play everyone!

We play again tomorrow, Friday, at 1pm – the weather looks good so far and we hope to see lots of people out for some fun.

Take care,

Paul
