Hi All,
Happy Valentines Day to everyone! Well, we had quite the crowd out today – about 35 people showed up and we had all six courts in use. We played from a bit before 1pm until a while after 3pm. The Football Team was scheduled to use the gym at 3pm but they were a no-show and we were able to continue playing beyond 3pm. Pam and I left at 3pm with action still on four courts.
We had several younger players – some I knew, and some were new to our sessions. Oh, to be young again – they sure can get all around the court. Some are MtA students who get a break from classes on Friday afternoons – regardless, it's great to see so many people enjoying pickleball. The fact that the young and the not-so-young people can compete together in this sport is part of what makes this so popular and lots of fun. For those new to our MtA sessions – a friendly reminder, there is a $2.00 fee required for each session. This goes toward paying for the rental cost of the gym. We were a bit short on the cash total today.
We were graced with Josh's presence today after a very long absence – but his play certainly hasn't suffered (maybe he was away to a clinic or something). Great games Josh! And Magi is back from her holiday down south, it's good that they have indoor pickleball down there because Magi said that by 10 am it got too hot for outside activities. Magi was in peak form back on the courts – great to see you back Magi! We did miss our good old friend Frank today. He had a birthday a few days ago and maybe he's still dealing with the fall-out from another year older – you're catching up to me Frank!
I imagine everyone notices how well Fred is playing – he is very good! His dedication to the game is awesome - he plays at most of our sessions (Salem & MTA), and in Amherst, and 6am at the YMCA. Those are the times that I know of, and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets other games in as well. I hear that he is also signed for a League Team Play. If you want to see how great effort and ball control works in pickleball keep an eye on Fred when he's on the court – it's impressive! Great playing Fred!
There is no pickleball at Salem on Monday – it's the Family Day holiday and the school is closed. We play next at MTA on Tuesday morning.
That's it for now. Stay safe, healthy, and happy,
Take care,
Paul
